The colony of Roanoke which was the first colony, failed due to many harsh conditions. Local Native American tribes attacked the colonists relentlessly until trade between the two started, and then even after occasional guerrilla raids were performed on each other. The local swamps birthed swaths of mosquitoes that carried disease that killed the colonists. The lack of food and supplies is also contributes to the failure. One of the last reasons was the lack of strong leadership to organize the colony. I hope this helps
