The trees of the deciduous forests are specially adapted according to the seasons and the leaves change and respond accordingly. The trees lose the leaves in the late fall and winter season. The leaves grow back and photosynthesize during summers and spring. During the fall the length of the days get shorter and leaves turn yellow, red or orange and the chlorophyll breaks down the leaves when temperature decreases. In winter the leaves fall down and the plants or trees go to a dormant stage. The leaves by falling protect the trees or plants from the freezing temperature.
