The main reason behind the increase in the demand for farm goods during the end of the 1820s and 1830 was the commercial phenomenon known as the "cotton boom". Developments in the textile industry in Europe made factories increase their output level to a point that they demand more raw material in order to keep up with their production schedules. This caused landowners located in the southern states to shift their production from other traditional crops to cotton.
