How the earth's crust is distinguished from the earth's mantle?

Pressure and temperatures increase with depth in the Earth, so the mantle is hotter and under greater pressure than the crust.
A small section of the upper mantle, the asthenosphere, is partially molten, allowing for the movement of the crust as tectonic plates.
