oil patterns the back end allows more distance for the ball to react when it hits the pin so when it hits the pin it hits it harder and more forceful and so it will go back farther or hit other pins

because the forces are not balanced the pin will fall down and go backwards and the force of the bowling ball will keep going after acting upon the non active pin
