Leroy Robert "Satchel" Paige (1906-1982) was a baseball player named as the best pitcher in the history of the Negro League. He also played in Major League Baseball. The longevity of Paige in baseball was notorious as her career lasted for five decades.
He was important to the fight for social equality for African Americans as he entered the Hall of Fame in 1971, being the first athlete of the Negro Leagues to be inducted, becoming a symbol of racial equality for African-Americans.
