To pinpoint exact coordinates of the location. If someone says I'm in LA, California, its not an EXACT point on the planet. But longitude and latitude make it easy to locate the STRAIGHT up answer of someone's house in 90210 in California, or where an army base equipment is being held, without an address just the given coordinates.
