Federalists believed in a strong federal govt. and believed that one of the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation was that the federal govt. lacked power. They also believed in a loose interpretation of the Constitution.

The Democratic-Republican/Anti-Federalists wanted the power of the federal govt. to be limited and that state govts should have more power. They also had strict interpretations of the Constitution, and also wanted low taxes.
