After the Plessy vs. Ferguson case, the court ruled that life was “separate, but equal” (races were separated but public facilities were equal). Note: This wasn’t actually the case. It basically determined that under the 14th and 15th amendments Blacks had political rights, but social rights were not required. After this, segregation became more prominent in the country, because it legalized Jim Crow laws.
