Genetic drift is also known as allelic drift or the Sewall Wright effect. It is a change in allele frequencies caused by random events. Sewall Wright is a biologist who studied it whish is why it sometimes bears his name. It shows how genes can be changed.

Genetic drift is a change in allele frequencies caused by random events. Therefore in this case the correct answer is the change in allele frequencies caused by random events. Genetic drift is one of the basic mechanism of evolution along with natural selection, mutation and migration. In each generation, several individuals may randomly leave behind a few more descendants than other individuals. Genetic drift occurs when the occurrence of variant forms of a gene (allele) increases or decreases by chance over time.
