Bt corn is a type of GMO corn which has had genes inserted into its genetic material from another organism, known as a donor organism. In this case, it is the bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis, which naturally occurs in soil. The value of the gene which has been added is that it contains a protein which kills the larvae of certain insects, especially European corn borers. This insect resistance is the chief feature of value in Bt corn.
