The average distance from the earth to the moon is 384,403 km. The moon orbits the earth at about 3,682 km per hour. The earth's diameter is about 12,756 km. How far would the moon travel around the earth in 12 hours?

Would it make sense merely to multiply the orbital speed (3682 km/hr) by the elapsed time (12 hrs)? If so,

Distance traveled = (3682 km/hr)*(12 hrs) = 44184 km, or 27615 miles.
