Your Poem
Now it is time to write your own poem! What will be the theme or topic of your poem? Consider what mood you want to create. Poems can paint pictures, create ideas, arouse emotions. Think about how you can use poetic devices to communicate with your readers. Will you use form, personification, an extended metaphor, a childlike rhyme scheme? You may choose to use one or all of these. You many decide to use other poetic devices studied in these lessons. Be creative!
Your poem must include the following:
• a rhyme scheme or meter
• figurative language
• at least one verb in the subjunctive mood
