The Silk Road became an important route that linked two regions of the world and allowed the exchange of products, ideas and, of course, silk. This was an important way in which trade could grow and communities could prosper by purchasing items that were not available in their own region. The Silk Road connected the Mediterranean region with China and served as an important route for trade between the two areas from around 200 BC.
