There are many ways to give a definition or description of nativism, but the general truth is that it refers to "promoting the interests of native inhabitants against those of immigrants."
So, the natives are given prominence over potential immigrants to the country, which is not something that should be done. All people should be equal, if the immigrants have the legal rights to be in that particular country.
