The graph of an ellipse with y intercepts negative 7 and positive 7 is not a function. The definition of a
function requires that
every element of the domain
corresponds to exactly
one
element of the range. However, every x value of an ellipse has two values of y (if you draw a vertical line at certain x value, the line will intercept the ellipse twice.)
