Hi there! So first off, we need to do the distributive property by multiplying each term in the parenthesis by the number outside of the parenthesis. When you do this correctly, this is what you should get:

6x - 12 = 4x + 4

Now that we've done that, it's time to look for the value of x. Let's subtract 4x from both sides. 4x - 4x cancels out. 6x - 4x is 2x. That gives us 2x - 12 = 4. Let's add 12 to both sides. -12 + 12 cancels out. 4 + 12 is 16. We get 2x = 16. Divide each side by 2 to isolate the x. 2x/2 cancels out the x. 16/2 is 8. So we have the value of x but let's plug in 8 as x to see if it's right. 6 * 8 is 48. 48 - 12 is 36. 4 * 8 is 32. 32 + 4 is 36. 36 = 36. There. x = 8.
