What kind of problem is "built into" being a bigman?

The bigman gives large amounts of goods to his competitors in order to shame them and reduce their prestige. This leaves little for his (or her) followers.
This type of actions actually contradicting the role of a leader because a leader is expected to take care of his/her group members first before giving resources to outsiders on the basis of pride.
