Answer:

The mean temperature of May is higher than the mean temperature of September.

Explanation:

The mean is calculated from the box-plot as follows:

It is the ratio of Sum of (Least value, greatest value, Lower quartile i.e.
Q_1 , Median i.e.
Q_2 and Upper quartile i.e.
Q_3 ) to the number of points i.e. 5.

  • Hence, From the Box plot of May we have:

Least value=52

Greatest value=79

Lower quartile or first quartile i.e.
Q_1=63

Middle quartile or Median i.e.
Q_2=71

Upper quartile or Third quartile i.e.
Q_3=73

Mean=(52+63+71+73+79)/(5)\\\\\\Mean=67.6

  • Hence, From the Box plot of September we have:

Least value=47

Greatest value=88.5

Lower quartile or first quartile i.e.
Q_1=52

Middle quartile or Median i.e.
Q_2=62

Upper quartile or Third quartile i.e.
Q_3=77.5

Mean=(47+88.5+52+62+77.5)/(5)\\\\\\Mean=65.4

Hence, the mean of May is higher as compared to September.
