How and why did american domestic and foreign policies change for 1890 to 1918

The expansion of the United States affected its foreign policy because America wanted to stay out of foreign affairs but were eventually forced into them. When America was trading with other countries their ships would bet attacked by African pirates causing Americans to have to take action against them.
