These facts are describing the Democratic-Republican Party, originally known as the Republican Party, which was formed in 1792, dissolved after the War of 1812 against the United Kingdom (1812-1815) and that eventually became the present Democratic Party. Both Thomas Jefferson and James Madison favored a decentralized and limited government - unlike George Washington and Alexander Hamilton, who, as Federalists, were in favor of a strong central government, with plenty of competencies, and a not-so-strict interpretation of the Constitution. Jefferson and their supporters found inspiration in the ideals of the French Revolution (1789) and they envisioned a party that would strive to be democratic and equitable, and that would help and serve the common man, not the affluent one.
