Dark reaction of photosynthesis does not depend upon the sunlight but it can takes place both in the presence and absence of sunlight. It takes places in the stroma of chloroplast and uses the energy derived from light reaction.

These are the 3 phases of dark reaction

- Carbon fixation

- Carbon reduction

- RuBp Regenaration

Simultaneously, another reaction take place called photorespiration. Reason is that the carbon dioxide released by photorespiration is taken up by dark reaction of photosynthesis and the oxygen produced by DRP is used by photo respiration.
