Chronic bronchitis is the hypersecretion of mucus and the chronic productive cough. It continues for 3 months at minimum and can last for years. Inspired from the irritants it can produce much thicker mucus. This sticky mucus coating is more tenacious, and it increases the chances of bacteria such as H. influenze and S. pneumoniae to become embedded in the airways secretions. This is where they reproduce rapidly.

Person with chronic bronchitis also feel fatigue, experience shortness of breath, fever and chest discomfort.
