Simplify the following:

abs(-(7/11 + 8))

Put 8 + 7/11 over the common denominator 11. 8 + 7/11 = (11×8)/11 + 7/11:

abs(-(11×8)/11 + 7/11)

11×8 = 88:

abs(-(88/11 + 7/11))

88/11 + 7/11 = (88 + 7)/11:

abs(-(88 + 7)/11)

88 + 7 = 95:

abs(-95/11)

Since -95/11<=0, then abs(-95/11) = 95/11:

Answer: 95/11

The answer is 8 7/11.

Anything that is in those brackets like that means the absolute value of something. Absolute value is ALWAYS positive.

Hope this helps!
