A narcotic is a controlled substance. Used medically it can dull a patients severe pain as well as induce sleep. Narcotics are often used illegally for people who suffer from pain. People often can get hooked on the drug and abuse them. They can bring a sense of relaxation and peace. When over dosing on such drugs hydrocodone, morphine etc... It can cause mental lethargy, comas, convolutions, and even death.
