The author's main purpose for writing the memoir Night is to make people aware of the horrors of the Holocaust. Elie Wiesel, author and main character of the story, wanted to show his experiences as a Jew during the Holocaust and how it affected his faith, questioning himself about the existence of God. Wiesel writes this story so that people know will never forget the events of the Holocaust. Due to Wiesel was able to reflect the story so well, he was rewarded with a Nobel Peace Prize.

Elie Wiesel's purpose in Night is D. to make people aware of the horrors of the holocaust. His own character denies his fate in the beginning of the book, not believing that something like that could happen in the 20th century. He wants to make sure that anybody makes that mistake again.
