x is Kim's age, y is her sister's age

x = 2y \\ x + y = 40 \\ 2y + y = 40 \\ 3y = 40 \\ y = (40)/(3) \\ x = (80)/(3)
her sister is 13 and a third,

Kim is 26 and two thirds
