How does finding the volume of a cylinder relate to finding the volume of a prism?

they relate to each other because you have to find the Base and Height

In each case the volume = area of cross section times the length.

In the case of a cylinder the cross section is a circle and for a prism its a polygon ( eg a triangle or a rectangle).
