Answer:

x=0.6

Explanation:

One problem may be: Jane spent $ 10 on candy for her daughter. This was 7 times more than 5 times what she spent the last time she bought candy. How much did you spend last time?

5*x+7=10

First, you have to know that there are two pairs of inverse operations: addition and subtraction, multiplication and division.

Formally, to solve an equation we must isolate the unknown x.

For that, you change the numbers from one side of an equation to the other. For that, first the number 7, which is adding on the left side, will go to the right side of the equation with the opposite operation, the subtraction:

5*x=10-7

5*x=3

Then, to isolate "x", as 5 is multiplying, go to the other side of the equation by dividing.

x=(3)/(5)

x=0.6
