The god was "Apollo".

It is a tragic legend in Greek folklore, Oedipus inadvertently completed a prophecy that he would wind up slaughtering his father and wedding his mother, in this way causing debacle to his city and family. The legend of Oedipus has been retold in numerous forms, and was utilized by Sigmund Freud to name and give mythic point of reference to the Oedipus complex.
