Journalistic standards require reporters to be objective so that they avoid influencing the audience.

I believe the answer is: Avoid influencing the audience

Journalists need to be able to separate the facts and personal opinion when they are doing the reporting. If the journalists fail to do this, the organizations where they work would become a groupthink that trapped the audiences into a certain type of point of view and refuse to see other opposing views.
