The goal of Macon's bill no. 2 was for France and Great Britain to stop attacking American boats during the Napoleonic Wars in 1810. The United States would end trading between such countries if they did not stop seizing the American ships. However, France and Great Britain did not comply with this bill and soon, in 1812, there was a war between the United States and the nations of Europe.
