I have always enjoyed eating tuna f sh. unfortunately, a study of the mercury content of canned tuna in 2010 found that chunk white tuna contains 0.6 ppm hg and chunk light tuna contains 0.14 ppm.2 the u.s. environmental protection agency recommends no more than 0.1 mg hg/kg body weight per day. i weigh 68 kg. how often may i eat a can containing 6 ounces (1 lb 5 16 oz) of chunk white tuna so that i do not average more than 0.1 mg hg/kg body weight per day? if i switch to chunk light tuna, how often can i eat one can?

If the body weight is 68kg and the recommendation is to consume less than 0.1 mg hg/kg body weight per day, then the recommendation limit would be less than: 0.1 mg hg/kg * 68kg = 6.8mg hg/day.

The number of chunk white tuna that could be consumed would be: 6.8mg hg/day/ (0.6 * 10^-6 hg * 6 ounches/can * 28349.5mg/ounches)= 6.66 can/day

The number of chunk light tuna that could be consumed would be: 6.8mg hg/day/ (0.14 * 10^-6 hg * 6 ounches/can * 28349.5mg/ounches)= 28.55 can/day
