Each day, we make deliberate choices about the amount of investment we contribute to every relationship on every team of which we are a part. With some relationships, we are cautious with our investment. In these connections, we elect safety over closeness, since a more cautious attachment protects us from the experience of loss. With other relationships, we are willing to cast our fate to the wind and risk the realities of loss in exchange for the benefits of closeness.
