A truck traveled 205 miles in 312 hours. The distance is the product of the rate and the time. To the nearest tenth, what is the average speed of the delivery truck?

It can work well to rearrange the formula before you plug in the numbers.

... distance = rate × time . . . . . given relation

... rate = distance / time . . . . . divide the above by time

Now, fill in the given numbers for distance and time.

... rate = (205 milles)/(312 hours) = 0.7 miles/hour
