5/6 + (-1/6)

is the same as

5/6 - 1/6

  • Subtract the numerators and keep the same denominators.

5/6 - 1/6 = 4/6

  • Simplify 4/6 by dividing it by 2/2.

4/6 ÷ 2/2 = 2/3

  • 4/6 = 2/3

Your answer is 2/3.

Here is the equation:

(5)/(6) + (-(1)/(6) )

Since the fraction you are adding is bigger than the negative fraction, your answer will be positive. Since the answer will be positive, you can just subtract.

Your new equation will be:

(5)/(6) - (1)/(6)

They both have a common denominator so you can just subtract.

(5)/(6) - (1)/(6) = (4)/(6)

2 * 2 = 4 \\ 2 * 3 = 6

Since both numbers are divisible by 2, divide both by 2

(4 / 2)/(6 / 2) = (2)/(3)

Your answer is
(2)/(3)
