Luka wants to buy peaches and a watermelon. Peaches cost $2.99 a pound, and a watermelon costs $4.50. He has $15.00 to spend. How many pounds of peaches can he buy? Write and solve the inequality to answer the question.

Given that cost of 1 pound of peaches = $2.99

Let number of pounds of peaches = x

Then cost of total peaches = 2.99x

Given that cost of 1 pound of watermelon = $4.50

Given that Luka wants to buy peaches and a watermelon. So total expenditure is given by expression 2.99x+4.50


Given that "He has $15.00 to spend." So that means total expenditure 2.99x+4.50 can't be more than 15.00

Hence required inequality is


2.99x+4.50 \leq 15.00

Now we just need solve this inequality


2.99x \leq 15.00-4.50


2.99x \leq 10.50


x \leq (10.50)/(2.99)


x= 3.51170568562

Hence number of pounds of peaches should be less than approx 3.51170568562 pounds.

You may use fraction value to be more accurate.

If you want to use only whole numbers then answer will be 3 pounds.
