The goals of these two colonies differed mainly in the reason why they were built. In the case of Jamestown, the colonists who established it wanted to benefit from the abundance of natural resources that they found in the region. Therefore, they wanted the colony to be profitable and economically successful. This was different from the goal of Massachusetts. In this case, the Puritans wanted a place where they could establish a peaceful farming community. They cared less about profitability than they did about peace and tolerance.
