David. Has a piece of wood measuring 12 1/8 feet that he wants to use for a project he needs to cut the wood into pieces that measure 1 13/16 feet how many pieces of wood can he cut measuring exactly 1 13/16 feet?

Using Unitary Method
No. of pieces= 97/8 ÷ 29/16= 6.68 ~~~= 7 pieces.

A calculator can figure this for you, or you can do the arithmetic by hand.


(12(1)/(8))/(1(13)/(16))=(\left((12\cdot 8+1)/(8)\right))/(\left((1\cdot 16+13)/(16)\right))\\\\=(97)/(8)\cdot(16)/(29)=(97\cdot 2)/(29)=(194)/(29)\\\\=(6\cdot 29+20)/(29)=6(20)/(29)

6 pieces can be cut measuring exactly 1 13/16.
