The like terms that contain the same variables

10y + 3x + 10 + x -2y

x term: 3x, x

y term: 10y, -2y

So

10y + 3x + 10 + x -2y = 4x + 8y + 10

3x - y + 4x +6 - 2y

x term: 3x, 4x

y term: -y, -2y

So

3x - y + 4x + 6 - 2y = 7x - 3y + 6
