The main centres of revolt in these regions namely meerut, Delhi, Lucknow, kanpur, Jhansi, Gwalior, Barrackpore, Bareilly, and Arrah in Bihar. On 9th May, 85 soldiers in Meerut refused to use the new rifle and were sentenced to ten years' imprisonment.Soon there was a rebellion in the Meerut Cantonment.
