Robert Hooke discovered the cellular structure of cork and introduced the term `cell' into biology and Leeuwenhoek using simple microscopes of his own making, discovered bacteria, protozoa, spermatozoa, rotifers, Hydra and Volvox, and also parthenogenesis in aphids.
