subtraction of 8 and 41/2 can be done as follows:

41/2 in decimal is equal to 20.5

so subtracting 8-20.5=-12.5

We have to subtract them. To subtract fractions first we have to make the denominators equal.

Here the denominator of 41 is 2. So we will have to make the denominator of 8 also 2. To make it 2, we have to multiply numerator and denominator of 8 both by 2. We can write 8 as 8/1, as we know 8 diivided by 1 is 8.

8/1 - 41/2

(8×2)/(1×2) - 41/2

16/2 -41/2

Now as the denominator is same we can subtract the numerator.

(16-41)/2

-25/2

So -25/2 is the reqired answer here.
