Ottoman emerged in Asia Minor during the breakdown of the empire of the Seljuk Turks. The Ottoman Turks during the reign (1451–81) of Muhammad II they ended all other local Turkish dynasties and began to absorb the other states. The foundation and rise of the Ottoman Empire is a period of history that started with the emergence of the Ottoman principality in c. 1299.
