Explanation:

Let x be the smallest even integer.

Then (x + 2) and (x + 4) are the other even integers.

We have x + (x + 2) + (x + 4) = 138.

=> 3x + 6 = 138

=> 3x = 132

=> x = 44.

Hence the smallest integer is 44.
