The answer is the "thesis statement" or option A. A thesis statement is the main idea of your essay. So it's not a essay if you don't have the main idea. A literary analysis is and should explain the how and why of the author's purpose of writing the story. Therefore the thesis statement is the most important part of the literary analysis.
