Gregory age is 5 years greater than 1/3 of Amanda age. Gregory is 17 years old. If Amanda’s age is denoted by x which equation represent this situation and how old is Amanda ?

Let Amanda's age = x.

Gregory's age = x + 5.

Since Gregory is 17 years old.

17 = x + 5

x = 17 - 5

x = 12

Amanda is 12 years old.

Amanda=x

Gregory`s Age.
Gregory=17 yrs.

Equation formation.
1/3× x = (1/3 x)

1/3 x + 5 = 17

Equation= 1/3 x +5 =17

1/3 x = 17-5
1/3 x = 12

x=12×3
x=36

Amanda`s age = 36
