Colony leaders were concerned that most of the settlers were not committed to settle in the colony permanently. They decided to include include significant numbers of unmarried English women to become settler's wives. the colony leaders ensured women were not granted head right, and successfully recruited young beautiful English women to come and join the settlers. The first group arrived in 1621.
