Post-reinforcement pauses in responding are characteristic of "fixed interval" schedules.

In operant conditioning, a fixed-interval schedule is a schedule of reinforcement where the primary reaction is rewarded simply after a predetermined measure of time has slipped by. This schedule causes high measures of reacting close to the finish of the interim however much slower reacting promptly after the conveyance of the reinforcer.
