The United states attempted to halt the communist revolution in Cuba by imposing an embargo in 1960.
The commercial, economic and financial embargo of the United States against Cuba was imposed in October 1960, in response to the expropriation by the new revolutionary government of property of US citizens and companies on the island after the Cuban Revolution. Although initially it excluded food and medicines, in February of 1962 the United States hardened the measures and the blockade almost became total.
